FasTFatum, is the alter ego of the songwriter/singer, Igor Calzada.
Igor Calzada´s (Donostia-St. Sebastian, 1975) musical projects have always had the same common background: We could say all of them have had an hybrid touch (or at least that has been the author's main intention): A fusion between music (understood as songs) and literature (used as stories).
From this starting point, we could figure out his path step-by-step in the following way:
· 1990-1996: Vocals, lyrics and drums in the Euripean Sua (Fire behind the Rain, in Basque), a rock/folk/pop group.
· 1995-1997: Vocals in an experimental group called 5 Artzai Band (5 Shepherds Band, in Basque). Rooted in Bilbao’s university atmosphere and surroundings.
· 1997-nowadays: Definitely, one of the most important milestone for understanding the path of Igor Calzada as a songwriter, is the collaboration he started with the Basque writer Harkaitz Cano (http://zubitegia.armiarma.com/egileak/00025.htm) in 1997. 10 years have passed since then.
FasTFatum, in this sense, it’s just an spontaneous, unconcious and natural output and result of this collaboration.
In 1996, I. Calzada started to turn poem's from H. Cano’s “Kea Behelainopean Bezala” (1994, Susa) poem’s book into songs. However, the decision for starting his path as a songwriter/singer was taken not before 1997. Specifically, the crucial fact for taking the decision of starting as a songwriter/singer, was the trip to New York City (NYC). At this stage, H. Cano was just writing down his “Piano gainean gosaltzen" (2000, Erein) book, thus they met in NYC and started thinking about future shared projects.
From then on, they created and put forward uZTAIL oPARO oSTEAN (uoo) (After a Plentiful July, in Basque), which was shown in more than a hundred venues around the Basque geography.
· From 2002 onwards, uZTAIL oPARO oSTEAN (uoo), was renamed to OSTEAN (After, in Basque)(http://www.ostean.com), with the invaluable musical collaboration of Luis Fernandez (cello player) and Oianko Txoperena (webmaster and graphic designer). Four members showed this project in more than 30 gigs, combining songs, stories and video projections.
· In this context and taking into account the previous description, Igor Calzada begins his solo path, FasTFatum, with the direct collaboration of the writer Harkaitz Cano. From the beginning FTF will count on collaborators of all kinds and backgrounds.
· The name FasTFatum could be translated as "fast fate". But the origin of the name comes from the latin "fas fatum" which means just "fate" and it's mainly taken from Bernardo Atxaga, a Basque writer's poem called "fas fatum" (sang as well by Ruper Ordorika, a Basque songwriter).
What is FasTFatum about?
The need to look inward; dream, journey, love, the near and far, cities, whats true, the trivial and subtle, people, the street, of you and of me... . The urgency and drive to live life as a FasTFatum. Life taken as fast fate. FasTFatum.
